Baton Rouge, La- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin accepting applications for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The application portal will open on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. CST and close on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. CST.

This initial funding round is part of Louisiana’s allocation of $73.4 million through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. The funding aims to support the installation, operation and maintenance of ten publicly accessible charging facilities that adhere to all federal requirements. NEVI funds can cover up to 80% of installation costs, with the remaining 20% required to come from private funding sources. Approximately $10 million is designated for ten projects focused on the installation of Direct Current Fast Charging (Level 3) facilities during round one.

DOTD will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit competitive grant proposals for the build-out of electric vehicle charging infrastructure on the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) designated Alternative Fuel Corridors. The RFP can be found here.

To assist applicants, an informational webinar will be held on Friday, December 20, at 1:00 p.m. CST. This session is open to the public, and registration details can be found here.

Further funding rounds will be announced as additional federal funds are secured for the program. DOTD’s vision is to strategically deploy EV charging sites to create a convenient, accessible, reliable and equitable charging network throughout Louisiana.
