SLIDELL, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced today that the I-59 rest area in Slidell will be closed beginning 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, through the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 21, weather permitting.

The closure will allow crews to replace curbs and gutters, and construct new sidewalks.

The work is part of an ongoing $2.1 million rest area renovation project that involves improving parking areas, landscaping, installing lighting and adding new pavilions. Work on the project began in October 2013 and will finish by April 2014.
