New Orleans, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has discontinued servicing vehicles and pedestrians at the Algiers Point/Canal Street route due to a mechanical failure of the Motor Vessel Louis B. Porterie. The M/V Frank X. Armiger has been placed back in service and will carry pedestrians only.

DOTD had temporarily returned the larger boat to Algiers/Canal on yesterday, while the Lower Algiers/Chalmette ferry route remains out of service awaiting a repair to the landing barge. On its last trip, yesterday evening, the M/V Porterie began experiencing mechanical issues, which could not be immediately resolved.
