LA 39 (Claiborne Avenue): – State Project No. H.001200

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces an update on the project to clean and paint the Judge Seeber (Claiborne Avenue) Bridge, a $4.8 million preservation project.

The east tower is being blasted right now. The contractor, Texas Bridge, Inc., is touching up areas on the west tower to prepare for applying both the intermediate and final paint coats. On Tuesday, September 10, the contractor submitted drawings for the containment on the lift-span portion of the bridge. The submittals are now being reviewed.

DOTD continues to meet twice a week with the contractor, the design consultant, and the inspection consultants to assure satisfactory project progress.

The bridge is currently in the “up” position and closed to vehicular traffic until mid-October. Marine traffic is passing through. Detours are the St. Claude and Florida Avenue Bridges.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the public’s continued patience and reminds motorists to please drive with caution through the construction zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life. In addition to more than 16,600 miles of roadway, including over 930 miles of interstate and 13,000 bridges, DOTD supports the development of the state’s aviation, marine and rail infrastructures. Through this work, we are able to facilitate economic development, create job opportunities, improve vital evacuation routes, and make critical freight corridors safer and more efficient.
