New Orleans – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has suspended service at the Lower Algiers/Chalmette ferry route due to an emergency repair needed to the barge. Maintenance crews are assessing the damage now and do not yet have a timeframe on the repair.
Earlier this morning, the barge broke loose from the mooring and drifted out into the river, causing the flap to fall behind the barge. Workers will need to secure the flap and the barge, and put the barge back in place before service can resume.
DOTD will alert the public when this repair is complete and service ready to resume.
