UPDATE: Plaquemine/Sunshine ferry to close at 10 am Wednesday
Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 7:23:37 AM
Baton Rouge – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is advising motorists that the Plaquemine/Sunshine ferry in Iberville Parish is expected to close at approximately 10 am today, September 11. The closure is due to the Coast Guard closing the river to traffic, and is also necessary for crews to secure the vessel for gale-force winds due to the arrival of Hurricane Francine. The ferry will remain closed until the weather allows the safe resumption of service.
Motorists can find the latest status of the ferry by calling 511, visiting www.511la.org, or using the Louisiana 511 mobile app. Motorists can also visit the DOTD website at www.dotd.la.gov and select the “Find ferry & bridge status?” link on the right of the homepage.
As a reminder, the second Plaquemine/Sunshine ferry remains out of service due to mechanical repairs.
