MONROE. La.-Today, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Secretary Sherri H. LeBas participated in a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the U.S. 80 Louisville Bridge rehabilitation project. The ceremony was held at Progressive Bank in West Monroe, where LeBas was joined by state and local officials for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
Secretary LeBas said, "The completion of this project was truly a community-wide effort. The combined coordination between law enforcement, parish and city officials and the public helped to alleviate traffic impacts during construction."
The project began in 2007, and included structural repairs, a fresh coat of paint, upgrades to the bridge’s electrical system and deck, as well as the bearing replacement. The rehabilitation will ultimately extend the life of the bridge, improve the ride quality, enhance safety and preserve the bridge’s exterior.
The Louisville Bridge was built in 1936 and provides access to over 40,000 motorists each day. The bridge rehabilitation was broken up into two phases and cost $20 million.
