LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has started a $1.6 million project to rehabilitate La. 444 from La. 63 to Gum Swamp Road in Livingston Parish as part of the Quality Surface Program. The project is will resurface approximately four miles of roadway.

Quality Surface Program is a more than $425 million initiative to resurface and repair approximately 1,100 miles of roadway across the state. This historic resurfacing program was made possible through Governor Jindal and the legislature’s efforts to pass a bill allowing for the bonding of the State Highway Improvement Fund (SHIF) revenue stream for non-federal aid routes. The bonded funds, combined with the SHIF’s regular funds, will allow the state to improve the quality of roadways, many in rural areas, some of which haven’t been repaired in over 30 years.

Barriere Construction Co. LLC is performing the work, which includes an in-place cement treated base and asphaltic concrete surfacing. The project was let in June 2013 and is scheduled for completion in December 2013.
