Nelson Road Extension & Bridge and W. Sallier Street Improvements

Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), along with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is proposing to extend Nelson Road with a bridge over Contraband Bayou and connect with existing W. Sallier Street. In addition, improvements to W. Sallier Street and the relocation of the existing Port of Lake Charles Railroad are proposed. The purpose of the Nelson Road Extension & Bridge and W. Sallier Street Improvements projects is to provide a direct transportation link for the traveling public from Interstate 210 and southern Lake Charles across Contraband Bayou, and improve existing roadway access to downtown Lake Charles and the Port of Lake Charles (a major port facility in Louisiana). The LADOTD encourages the public to attend the first Open House Public Meeting for this project at the following time and place:

The purpose of this open house public meeting is to present an overview of the project and give the public an opportunity to provide comments that will help the study team in the evaluation of the alternatives. In addition, the meeting is an opportunity for any interested parties to request participation in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act consultation to address cultural and historical resource issues related to the project. The FHWA process for conducting Environmental Assessments (EA) in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 will also be described. Comments are requested on the purpose and need for the project, issues that should be considered in the EA being prepared by the LADOTD for the FHWA, and other concerns related to the project. Informational handouts, maps, and graphic displays will be available at the meeting. Representatives from LADOTD, FHWA, and the consultant team will be present to receive comments and discuss issues. Verbal comments will be recorded.
