NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) wants to alert Algiers Point/Canal Street ferry riders that the Motor Vessel Frank X. Armiger – a pedestrian-only vessel – will not return to service on Monday, September 23, as previously announced. The switch to pedestrian-only service will be delayed until further notice.
Earlier today, the M/V Armiger – which recently underwent repairs to its generator – was undergoing a scheduled quarterly inspection when the generator stopped producing voltage. DOTD is working to resolve the issue and will not be able to place the boat in service until the repair is complete and it is once again cleared by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Travelers are encouraged to sign up to follow the latest status of the ferries on Twitter.com at Canal_Ferry and/or Chalmette_Ferry.
