New Orleans - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the early completion of structural repairs on the Senator Ted Hickey Bridge (LA 1264).

The reopening of all traffic lanes for public use is scheduled to be completed by noon on Thursday.

The repair project was initially estimated to last through August after structural issues and safety concerns forced DOTD to close the bridge earlier in the year.

“We are very excited to successfully complete this project,” said DOTD District Engineer Scott Boyle.

Lafayette-based C.E.C., Inc. (CEC) completed repairs within the past week, and a subsequent inspection of the repairs passed federal safety requirements.

The project focused on repairing the original steel columns that had been in place since the bridge opened in 1967. Modifications and additions have solidified the support system, allowing traffic to again safely cross the bridge.

“I want to thank our team, CEC, and certainly the community for their ongoing patience and support,” said Boyle. “To complete a significant repair this far ahead of schedule is a team effort. I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
