MADISONVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces an emergency closure of the Tchefuncte River Bridge on La. 22 in Madisonville, La., due to a mechanical failure that occurred approximately one hour ago. The bridge is closed to marine and vehicular traffic in both directions.

The swing bridge was attempting to open to marine traffic when a hydraulic line burst and left it stuck in the up position. DOTD engineers estimate the repair will take approximately three hours and anticipate reopening the structure around 8 p.m., tonight.

Motorists may detour from the Causeway Bridge by taking U.S. Highway 190 to Interstate 12 westbound, to La. 21 southbound, to La. 1077, which runs into La. 22 east.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life.
