DOTD announces project to move utilities, repair Ford Street in Shreveport
SHREVEPORT – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a project to improve a section of LA 173 (Ford Street) near downtown Shreveport, Caddo Parish.
The first phase of improvements involves a contractor hired by the City of Shreveport (Wicker Construction) to mobilize and relocate the water main that is currently located under Ford Street. This will help prevent any utility-related issues in the future from compromising the integrity of the roadway.
This portion of work is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 12, 2024, with intermittent lane closures going into place on Ford Street between Pine Street and Hartman Street.
There are 300 calendar days allotted in the contract for utility relocation, which the City of Shreveport is managing.
Once this work is complete, a project to repair Ford Street will be put out for bid. This project involves a mill and asphalt overlay to repair the driving surface of the roadway.
That project is currently in development and is anticipated to go to bid in fiscal year 2025-2026, following the completion of the city’s utility relocation. DOTD will provide additional information as we move closer to the start of that overlay project.
