DOTD to Extend Temporary Closure of Judge Seeber Bridge for Maintenance

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will continue the temporary closure of the Judge Seeber (Claiborne Avenue) Bridge through mid-October as a result of ongoing painting activity that creates bridge traffic hazards. Motorists can use St. Claude and Florida Avenues as close alternate routes.

DOTD planned to reopen the bridge following the Labor Day weekend; however, a site evaluation revealed this week that a substantial amount of equipment will be required to be staged on the bridge in order for the contractor to complete painting maintenance. The extra activity on the bridge presents a safety hazard to motorists, which is the reason for the temporary closure extension.

The contractor will continue to have the bridge in the “up” position to accommodate the required containment enclosures and construction equipment to perform this work. DOTD is advising all motorists to use St. Claude and Florida Avenues as alternate routes.
