UPDATE - REOPENED: I-20 westbound ramp at Spring Street (Exit 19A), Caddo Parish

(UPDATE): DOTD advises motorists that the Spring Street ramp from I-20 has been REOPENED following a train derailment in downtown Shreveport.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that the I-20 westbound off-ramp to Spring Street (Exit 19A) into downtown Shreveport is currently closed due to a train derailment.

The train derailment is located under the Spring/Market Street bridges that provide the primary access into downtown Shreveport.

Following a previous train derailment in 2020, DOTD constructed a crash wall as part of the repairs to the Spring Street bridge in an effort to prevent damage during any future derailments. It appears at this time that the crash wall has functioned as designed and prevented the train from impacting and damaging the bridge itself.

The DOTD bridge engineer and inspectors are examining the structure to ensure it is safe for travel.

The railroad company is currently on site to conduct train car removal operations. The Spring Street ramp will remain closed until those operations are complete in order to ensure the safety of the traveling public. There is currently no timeline on the completion of train car removal.

Additional information will be provided as soon as it is available.

Restrictions/Permits: Total ramp closure at the specified locations. All vehicles will need to utilize an alternate route.

Alternate Route: Downtown Shreveport can be accessed via the Texas Street Bridge (US 80) or Common Street (Exit 18D).

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
