NEW ORLEANS, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development's (DOTD) Paths to Progress celebrated the completion of roadway repairs on street segments located in New Orleans East at a ribbon-cutting at St. Maria Goretti Church.
The contractor for the $2.4 million project was Barriere Construction, Co. Street segments included:
- Hayne Boulevard from Press Drive to Congress Drive
- Morrison Road from Lamb Road to Mayo Boulevard
- Mayo Boulevard from Hayne Boulevard to Morrison Road
- Mayo Boulevard from Morrison Road to I-10
DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas said, "The cooperative efforts of all agencies involved enables opportunities such as Paths to Progress to become a reality, and I am thankful for our shared commitment to improve Louisiana’s transportation network."
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu stated, “These roadway enhancements will benefit the Pontchartrain Park, Little Woods and New Orleans East communities. This project represents a great partnership of federal, state and local resources.”
Regional Planning Commission Executive Director, Walter Brooks said, “Paths to Progress is improving the flow of traffic, the quality of life for residents and enhancing the driving experience for motorists.”
Repairs included resurfacing, repairing curbs and installing ADA-compliant accessible ramps. Work on the project began in July 2012 and was completed on schedule for October 2012.
Paths to Progress is a transportation improvement program to rehabilitate, restore and enhance more than 60 roadway segments in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. With a combined investment of over $90 million, Paths to Progress is a collaborative effort between the Federal Highway Administration, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, New Orleans Regional Planning Commission and City of New Orleans.
