LULING, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces it has completed the $30.5 million cable replacement project at the Hale Boggs Bridge in Luling. The project was an unprecedented engineering feat that replaced 72 support cables to extend the life of the structure.

“We are happy to deliver this project to the citizens of St. Charles Parish and those in the surrounding areas who use the Luling Bridge daily,” said Michael Stack, DOTD District Administrator.

Built in the late 1970’s, the Luling Bridge (officially known as the Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge) was opened to traffic on October 8, 1983, connecting Louisiana Highway 18 on the West Bank and Louisiana Highway 48 on the East Bank. Ten years later, the Luling Bridge was incorporated into the newly completed Interstate 310.

Upon completion of Interstate 49 – which will intersect east-west Interstate 10 going north-south – I-310 and the Luling Bridge will serve as a vital link for travel across the entire state.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life. In addition to more than 16,600 miles of roadway, including over 890 miles of interstate, DOTD supports the development of the state’s aviation, marine and rail infrastructures. Through this work, we are able to facilitate economic development, create job opportunities, improve vital evacuation routes, and make critical freight corridors safer and more efficient.
