New Orleans – The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that its Crescent City Connection Division (CCCD) has obtained permission from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and is now temporarily allowing motorized scooters on the Canal Street/Algiers Point Ferry currently being serviced by the Motor Vessel Armiger.

“Due to repairs in progress for the larger boats, we have not been able to carry vehicles on the Algiers Ferry – to and from Canal Street,” said David Tippett, executive director of CCCD. “This temporary measure is the most viable service option we can offer for a portion of our customer base. We hope to be able to accommodate our vehicle customers in the very near future.”

The USCG granted the request, but not without stipulations. The number of scooters per ride is limited to five and they may only be stationed in the designated bow area on the boat. A deckhand will direct scooter riders as they board.

The approval from the Coast Guard is temporary and will be invalid once a vehicle ferry returns to service at Canal Street/Algiers Point.
