Plaquemine ferry returns to service, White Castle and Edgard/Reserve remain closed

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that the Plaquemine/Sunshine ferry landing has returned to service.

The ferry initially closed Tuesday afternoon due to deteriorating weather conditions caused by Hurricane Isaac. The operating hours for the Plaquemine/Sunshine ferry landing are 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days per week.

The two remaining landings, White Castle and Edgard/Reserve, will remain closed until further notice.

Before traveling, drivers can call the Toll-Free Ferry Information line at 1-888-613-3779 for the status of the ferry, or visit the "Ferry Status" page on the right-hand side of the DOTD Web site.

Drivers can also access updates on the ferry through Twitter by visiting http://twitter.com/PlaquemineFerry. By creating a Twitter account, drivers can receive automatic updates on the ferry’s status via their Twitter Web page or text message.
