LA 946 (Joor Road); Jones Bayou – Hooper Road

East Baton Rouge Parish

March 17, 2009

We thank you for your cooperation and patience.  Please use caution when driving in construction zones and remember that the posted speed limit is 35 mph in this construction zone

Current work:

Crews are located 1,500 feet south of Hooper Road headed north and continue removing the existing roadway and rebuilding the road foundation. The dirt has been brought in to build the sub-base of the roadway. This dirt will be graded and built-up to the necessary elevation for the road base. Once the sub-base is complete, crews will begin placing and compacting stone to build the base course of the road. All this work is in preparation for the next round of pavement pouring which is scheduled for April.

Pile driving operations continue at the Comite River and the Comite Relief bridges. So far, 68 piles have been driven on the Comite River Bridge with eight left to be driven. On the Comite Relief Bridge, 44 piles have been driven and 14 are left to be driven.

The contractor continues pouring concrete driveways. We have completed the driveways for the Shell Station, GM Cable and all concrete drives on the southbound side of Joor Road at the intersection with Lovett Road. The remaining drives will be finished once the new lanes have been poured.

Traffic entering and exiting some streets, driveways, businesses and subdivisions will be temporarily inconvenienced while we pour driveways. If your business or residence has two entrances/exits, one entrance/exit will be closed temporarily during construction operations, but the other entrance will remain open allowing access to your business or residence. If your business has one entrance/exit, we will maintain traffic in and out of the business or residence while crews work across the driveway.

Motorists should expect delays and we ask that you proceed through the project with caution. Be on the lookout for flaggers and construction traffic entering and exiting the highway, side streets and driveways.

All above mentioned work schedules are subject to change due to adverse weather. Please see public notices for exact times, dates and cancellations.
