DOTD schedules repairs pivot arm on Bayou Sorrel Bridge

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin repairing the pivot arm of the Bayou Sorrel Bridge that crosses the intracoastal waterway in Iberville Parish at La. 75 spur tomorrow at 6 a.m.

 

The bridge was closed to marine traffic before the onset of Hurricane Gustav. During an inspection of the bridge today, DOTD crews discovered a crack in the pivot arms that opens and closes the pontoon bridge for marine traffic. The bridge will remain open to vehicular traffic while crews repair the pivot arm.

 

DOTD plans to test the bridge between noon and 3 p.m. tomorrow. Following a successful tests, DOTD will work with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Iberville Office of Emergency Preparedness to establish a schedule for marine traffic.
