Opportunity to request public hearing on proposed improvements to Kalistse Saloom Road

All persons are advised that the City of Lafayette and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) are planning improvements to Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette Parish. The project is State Project No. 700-28-0210; F.A.P. No. STP-2800(505).

The proposed project will improve capacity and relieve congestion in the project area by adding additional through lanes on a segment of La. 3095 (Kaliste Saloom Road) from La. 733 (E. Broussard Road) to La. 3073 (Ambassador Caffery Parkway) in Lafayette Parish. The existing roadway of La. 3095 is two lanes with 4-6 feet shoulders on both sides. The total length of the project is approximately 2 miles. The existing roadway will be widened to a four lane divided highway with a median and numerous median openings and signals. The widening will occur to the outside of the roadway. The roadway widening will occur on either side, or both sides of the roadway. The project will have subsurface drainage with curb and gutter.

Detailed information relative to the project is available to those interested through copies of the environmental assessment (EA) documents. These documents are available in the local/parish public libraries for public review and check out purposes. Additional copies of this document are available for review or purchase at DOTD’s District 03 Office located at 428 Hugh Wallis Road, Lafayette, La. 70508. Copies of this data will be made available upon request at the expense of the person requesting this information, and at a cost equal to the DOTD’s cost of reproduction. The EA is available, for review only, at the Federal Highway Administration Division Office at 5304 Flanders Drive, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.

Interested persons are advised that they may request that a public hearing be conducted to provide a means for the public to express their views to the proposed project and the probable social, economic, and environmental effects involved.  In lieu of requesting a public hearing, interested persons may submit their views in writing, pro or con, on the proposed project.

Requests for a public hearing or comments should be addressed to: Environmental Engineer Administrator; Department of Transportation and Development; P. O. Box 94245; Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9245, postmarked on or before Oct. 30, 2008. In the event that requests for a public hearing are received, one will be scheduled and notices stating the date, time, and place will be published.
