DOTD to hold public meeting for I-12 widening project

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold a public meeting for the I-12 widening project on Thursday, January 29, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Southside Junior High School at 26535 La. 16 in Denham Springs.

The meeting is being held to allow the public to learn more about the project, and to sign-up to receive periodic e-mail updates on the project’s progression. Representatives from DOTD and James Construction Group will be in attendance to provide information about the project and answer any questions.

Work on the $100 million project includes:

· Widening the eastbound interstate from two lanes to three lanes with 12-foot shoulders from O’Neal Lane in Baton Rouge to just east of Range Avenue in Denham Springs.

· Widening the westbound interstate from two lanes to three lanes with 12-foot shoulders from just west of 4-H Club Road in Denham Springs to O’Neal Lane.

· Two new side-by-side bridges over the Amite River featuring three lanes each and 12-foot shoulders.

Construction will begin in late February and be completed before Thanksgiving 2011.

To get to Southside Junior High School, take I-12 east to the Denham Springs exit (exit 10). Turn left on to La. 3002 (South Range Avenue). Take a right at Rushing Road. Travel down Rushing Road until it intersects with La. 16 (Pete’s Highway). Take a right. The school will be located on the right hand side of the road after you travel over the Pete’s Highway overpass. Parking will be available at the school.
