All five lanes of Perkins Road between Bluebonnet Boulevard and Siegen Lane opened to traffic Saturday evening as the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) completed the first phase of the Perkins Road Widening project.

The Perkins Road widening project continues to run on schedule. It began January 2007 and is scheduled to finish January 2010. The $27 million project will five-lane Perkins from Siegen to Essen Lane and replace open-ditch drainage with subsurface drainage and a curb, gutter and sidewalk system.

DOTD asks that people continue to drive with caution through the construction site as we still have signal adjustment work and clean up between Siegen and Bluebonnet over the next few weeks. Additionally, crews continue work between Bluebonnet and Essen preparing road base for the new outside lanes for this section of the project. The last phase of the project will be the reconstruction of the intersection at Bluebonnet and Perkins.
