BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that the Mississippi River water levels will recede enough to re-open the St. Francisville/New Roads ferry by noon Monday.

DOTD maintenance crews will rebuild the approaches to the St. Francisville ferry landing and reposition the landing barges in preparation of the opening of the roadway that accesses the ferry landing on the east bank.

The ferry stopped running on April 10 when the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Department closed the road leading to the St. Francisville landing because of high water levels.

Service at the White Castle location will remain closed for about two more weeks while crews finish repairs on the ferry.

For updates on the ferries, visit the "Ferry Status" page on the right-hand side of the DOTD website at www.dotd.la.gov or call the Ferry Toll-Free Information line at 1-888-613-3779.

The St. Francisville ferry averages 900 vehicles per day. The White Castle Ferry averages 230 vehicles per day.
