Applications available for elderly/disability transportation grants

Private non-profit organizations and certain public entities wishing to apply for grants to purchase vehicles to transport the elderly and disabled should submit a letter requesting an application by Sep. 2, to the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

The 2009 Capital Assistance Grants are funded by the Federal Transit Administration’s Section 5310 Elderly Individuals and Individuals with Disabilities Program. Only those organizations that already provide transportation services are eligible for funding assistance, according to DOTD Secretary William D. Ankner, Ph.D. All minority transportation organizations are encouraged to apply.

Interested organizations should submit a letter by Sep. 2 requesting the Section 5310 application. Mail the letter to:

An application and procedures manual will be sent to the requesting organization. The application submission deadline is Feb. 2, 2009. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
