14th Street between Gause Blvd., Florida Ave. to transform to two-way traffic on Mar. 13
(Mar. 7, 2012 – Slidell, LA) – On Mar. 13, currently one-way 14th Street in Slidell will become a two-way street between Gause Boulevard and Florida Avenue. This is one of several traffic flow changes that will be implemented over the next 16 months as Slidell Memorial Hospital makes progress on the new Emergency Department and Cardiology Services expansion.
City of Slidell and SMH officials urge drivers to practice caution as users adapt to the change.
The transition from one-way to two-way has already begun, according to SMH Chief Operating Officer Bruce Clement.
The roadway on 14th Street has been striped in anticipation of this conversion. The left lane of 14th Street at the intersection with Gause Boulevard will be closed to traffic for several days prior to the conversion on Mar. 13.
A turn lane for west-bound traffic on Gause Boulevard to turn south onto 14th Street has been completed. Also, the southbound turn signal on Gause Boulevard is ready to be activated. Temporary traffic signage has been installed to assist during the transition period. In addition, Clement said, the Slidell Police Department will closely monitor the area over the coming weeks to help avoid accidents.
