DOTD Announces 2012 Mardi Gras Ferry Hours

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s (DOTD) Crescent City Connection Division (CCCD) announced today its 2012 Mardi Gras ferry schedule. Due to the large crowds expected Saturday, February 18, 2012 through Tuesday, February 21, 2012, the vessels will be unable to maintain a normal departure schedule, during periods of high passenger volume. 

 

Departures during these periods will be dictated by the number of passengers boarding the vessels and will be coordinated by CCCD personnel controlling passenger access in the ferry terminals. Changes to the schedule are as follows.

 

Algiers/Canal Street Crossing

 

FRI FEB 17                           

One vessel all day

Vehicles carried all day (Tolls WILL be collected)

First trip from Algiers Point: 6:00 a.m.

First trip from Canal Street: 6:15 a.m.

Last trip from Algiers Point: 12:00 a.m.

Last trip from Canal Street: 12:15 a.m.

 

SAT FEB 18                         

One vessel 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., then two vessels the rest of the day

Vehicles carried until 1:15 p.m.: last vehicles loaded from west bank 1:00 p.m.; (Tolls WILL be collected)

First trip from Algiers Point: 6:00 a.m.

First trip from Canal Street: 6:15 a.m.

Last trip from Algiers Point: 12:00 a.m.

Last trip from Canal Street: 12:15 a.m.

 

SUN FEB 19                        

One vessel 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., then two vessels the rest of the day

Vehicles carried until 1:15 p.m.: last vehicles loaded from west bank 1:00 p.m.; (Tolls WILL be collected)

First trip from Algiers Point: 6:00 a.m.

First trip from Canal Street: 6:15 a.m.

Last trip from Algiers Point: 12:00 a.m.

Last trip from Canal Street: 12:15 a.m.

 

MON FEB 20                   

Two vessels all day

Vehicles carried until 1:15 p.m., unless crowd conditions on Canal St. require earlier stoppage: last vehicles

loaded from west bank 1:00 p.m.; (Tolls WILL be collected)

Out of service for any other river activities if so instructed by USCG)

First trip from Algiers Point: 6:00 a.m.

First trip from Canal Street: 6:15 a.m.

Last trip from Algiers Point: 12:00 a.m.

Last trip from Canal Street: 12:15 a.m.

 

TUE FEB 21                          

Two vessels all day

No vehicles carried all day

First trip from Algiers Point: 6:00 a.m.

First trip from Canal Street: 6:15 a.m.

Last trip from Algiers Point: 12:00 a.m.

Last trip from Canal Street: 12:15 a.m.


 

Gretna/Canal Street Crossing

 

There will be no service at this location from present up to and including Tuesday, February 21, 2012.

 

Lower Algiers/Chalmette Crossing

 

Normal service will continue at this location, from 6 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily. All other ferries will return to normal schedules on Wednesday, February 22, 2012.
