The Fort Buhlow Bridge Project is progressing very well. Crews are continuing to work on the footings, columns and caps for the northbound and southbound lanes of the new bridge. The cofferdam at Pier No. 14 (Alexandria side) is almost complete and the driving of the 24” steel pipe piles should begin in November.  The three (3) waler rings have been installed for the cofferdam at Pier No. 15 (Pineville side) and the driving of the sheet piles should begin in the near future.  The project is still scheduled for completion in January 2014.

On both the Alexandria and Pineville sides of the bridge the contractors have driven a number of 14” PCC piles, which will support the footings, columns, caps and the superstructure of the Fort  Buhlow Bridge. Approximately 1,305 out 2,060 14 inch piles have been driven on the project. Contractors have been working diligently to get the piles driven and have recently begun to hang the steel girders for Span No. 6, southbound. The girders will support the superstructure of the new bridge.
