BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that drivers are now able to access up-to-date traffic information via new traffic cameras installed on I-10 and I-49 in the Lafayette region.

DOTD has installed cameras on I-10 at Louisiana Avenue, I-10 at Breaux Bridge, I-10 at La. 347, I-10 near Henderson, I-10 mid-span on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, I-10 near Ramah, I-49 at North University Avenue and I-49 at La. 93.

The new traffic cameras are a part of an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) project to facilitate better communication among drivers, traffic operations staff, emergency response personnel and other agencies about existing roadway conditions.

The cameras, which are available through the 511 Traveler Information Service at www.511la.org, will allow drivers to view traffic conditions and make pre-trip decisions on which route they should take to avoid potential traffic delays.

DOTD is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life. In addition to more than 16,600 miles of roadway, including over 890 miles of interstate, DOTD supports the development of the state’s aviation, marine and rail infrastructures. Through this work, we are able to facilitate economic development, create job opportunities, improve vital evacuation routes, and make critical freight corridors safer and more efficient.
