The Fort Buhlow Project has progressed very well over the past few months due to great weather conditions. Crews have been working on the footings, columns and caps for the northbound lanes of the new bridge. The bridge is 85% complete on the Alexandria side of the Red River.
Crews are installing an enclosure to create a dry work environment, also known as a cofferdam. The cofferdam is being installed at Pier No. 14 to allow for the driving of 24” steel pipe piles in the river bottom. The construction of the pier will support the new bridge.
The pipe laying and dirt work on the relocated Graham Road and relocated 3rd Street is ongoing. On the Pineville side of the project, the contractor has driven sheet piles for the bridge abutment and completed tow 14” PCC test piles.
Currently the contractor is ahead of schedule and hopes to continue as we head into the summer months.
