BATON ROUGE, La. – Brad Brandt, Aviation Director for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), was recently presented with the prestigious Louisiana Airport Managers and Associates (LAMA) President's Award. The award is given each year as the association's highest honor to that individual who has made outstanding contributions to the enhancement and safety of the state's aviation system.
Brandt's responsibilities as Aviation Director include the registration, inspection, and oversight of more than 800 aviation sites in Louisiana. Additionally, he administers the Aviation Trust Fund, which serves to match millions of dollars in federal and local funds for airport improvement projects throughout the state.
Brandt began his career with DOTD in 2001 as Aviation Safety Compliance Officer, bringing with him experience in airport operations and security from the Denver International Airport. He was named DOTD Aviation Director in November 2009.
Under Brandt’s direction, the Aviation Program has grown to manage over 140 projects per year, expanding opportunities for the flying public, creating jobs, ensuring a safe environment for private pilots, and facilitating the airborne business community.
LAMA is the state's organization for all commercial service and general aviation airports in Louisiana, including seven air carriers and 62 general aviation facilities. The top executives from each airport and their sponsoring cities' leadership comprise the membership of the association. Represented, as well, are the leading consultant, engineering and construction firms in the aviation industry.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is committed to delivering transportation and public works systems that enhance the quality of life. In addition to more than 16,600 miles of roadway, including over 890 miles of interstate, DOTD supports the development of the state’s aviation, marine and rail infrastructures. Through this work, we are able to facilitate economic development, create job opportunities, improve vital evacuation routes, and make critical freight corridors safer and more efficient.
