Causeway Blvd. Interchange Update
Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at 11:55:44 AM

Phase 1 of the new interchange began in April 2009.

Everything in Phase 1 is open to traffic. About three weeks of work remains, including pavement striping, new signs, traffic signals, and minor touch-ups. The new ramps constructed under this project are:

1) Northbound Causeway to Westbound I-10: All northbound traffic headed to

I-10 now exits Causeway South of I-10 and then splits to go east or west on I-10. Westbound traffic will go over I-10 and tie into the existing westbound entrance ramp.

2) Westbound I-10 to Northbound Causeway: New elevated ramp goes over Veterans and joins Causeway Blvd. north of Veterans.

3) Westbound I-10 to Veterans off-ramp. New dedicated ground-level ramp.

4) Northbound Causeway to Veterans off-ramp. New dedicated off-ramp.

Phase 2 began in November 2009 and will be complete in Summer 2012.

Southbound Causeway to I-10 West will span over Veterans and Causeway when it is complete. The foundations and steel girders are complete and current work includes the installation of the concrete girders near Veterans, concrete caps, and bridge decks.

The new ground-level on-ramp from Veterans to I-10 West is partially open to traffic. The remaining portion will be finished to Veterans following completion of the overhead bridge work.

The new I-10 East on-ramp from Veterans will span over I-10 and tie into the existing ground level ramp South of I-10 when complete. The foundations are complete and crews are working on concrete caps, curtain walls and bridge decks.

The new South Causeway to I-10 East on-ramp will span over Causeway and join I-10 East in the median. The foundations are complete and crews are working on concrete caps, curtain walls, and bridge decks.

CURRENT LANE AND RAMP CLOSURES

A temporary entrance to I-10 West has been opened at the intersection of Severn and the North I-10 Service Road. The entrance is intended for Veterans traffic headed to I-10 West. Southbound Causeway traffic should continue using the existing on-ramp.

The North I-10 Service Road just east of Causeway, remains closed at 27th street.

Ground-level Southbound Causeway is reduced to one lane.

Periodic daily lane closures on mainline Northbound and Southbound Causeway.

Motorists should expect delays, and we ask that you proceed through the project with caution. Be on the lookout for flaggers and construction traffic entering and exiting the highway, side streets and driveways.

Traffic entering and exiting some streets, driveways, businesses and subdivisions will be temporarily inconvenienced while construction continues. If your business or residence has two entrances/exits, one entrance/exit may be closed temporarily during construction operations, but the other entrance will remain open allowing access to your business or residence. If your business has one entrance/exit, we will maintain traffic in and out of the business or residence while crews work across the driveway.

All above-mentioned work schedules are subject to change due to adverse weather. Please see public notices for exact times, dates and cancellations.
