Prospect Bridge Replacement Project Update
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 8:30:47 AM

Current work:
Crews are currently forming the south pier and forming and pouring the columns on the north pier. Other crews are continuing to build the new road base and approaches to the bridge.

Completed work:
Crews have removed the entire old bridge structure. The new drainage work located along La. 3087 (Prospect Street) and La. 24 (Main Street) is complete. The foundation piles for the north pier are completed. Around 28,000 cubic yards of embankment have been placed on La. 24 and La. 3087 to elevate the new roadway to meet the south bridge.

Each of the two piers sit on 61 concrete pilings that are 18-inches wide and 155 feet in length.  If the concrete piling were laid end-to-end, it would stretch 1.8 miles.  The total amount of pilings for the project would stretch a total of 4.5 miles.
