The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, (DOTD), announces that, weather permitting, work will begin on the LA 489 construction project on Monday, October 4, 2021 and will continue for approximately three (3) months. This base course reconstruction and asphalt overlay project is located on LA 489, beginning at the Fort Polk entrance gate and ending at the intersection with LA 121. This 2.854-mile-long project will receive milling asphalt concrete, in-place cement treated subgrade, in-place cement stabilized base course, asphalt surface treatment, asphalt concrete pavement, and related work.
The project was awarded to the lowest bidder, Gilchrist Construction Company, LLC, in the amount of $1,954,368.27.
Permit/Detour section
The contractor will begin milling asphalt pavement on Monday, October 4, 2021. The roadway will remain open to all local and through traffic with no restrictions for passenger vehicles and a twelve (12) foot wide lane width restriction for all oversize vehicles. The roadway will be reduced to one lane during construction operations.
