Pedestrian ferry operating in Jean Lafitte

Jean Lafitte – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that a temporary pedestrian ferry is now in service in Jean Lafitte. Due to the LA 302 bridge receiving extensive damage from Hurricane Ida, the ferry will allow pedestrians to reach each side of Bayou Barataria. The ferry is departing the east side of the bayou every hour on the hour near Perkins St. and docks on the west side near CJ Rojas St. (see map for details).

The gate on the floodwall on the east side is currently closed, but it will be opened today when resources are available to do so. The gate will allow pedestrians easier access to the ferry.

DOTD thanks you for your patience as we work to get debris from Hurricane Ida cleared from the roadways. Motorists can check www.511la.org or dial 511 to remain up-to-date on the latest closures. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).
