DOTD announces start of construction project on U.S. 61 in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes

Jefferson and Orleans Parishes- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that beginning on Monday, July 26, construction will begin on an overlay project on U.S. 61 in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes.

This $4.7 million project consists of removing and replacing the top two inches of asphalt pavement, replacing damaged curb and concrete medians, striping and the installation of handicapped curb ramps on Airline Drive between Carrollton Ave. and Causeway Blvd.

There will be nightly double lane closures between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. from Sunday to Thursdays, with occasional daytime and weekend closures.

The road will be open to regular traffic with no width restrictions on oversized loads passing through the work zone.

Emergency vehicles will have access to this area, but may encounter delays.

The contractor, Barriere Construction, is anticipated to be completed Spring 2022, weather dependent.
