NEW ORLEANS, La. - Magazine Street, from U.S. 90 Business to Nashville Avenue, is scheduled to receive repairs as part of  the South Louisiana Submerged Roads Program beginning in early January.

"I'm excited to begin construction on such an important project," said DOTD Secretary Sherri. H. LeBas. "The project will improve traffic flow and promote continued economic development in the area."

The repair work includes patching, resurfacing and construction of handicap-accessible (ADA) ramps. Prior to the start of construction, a public meeting will be held to introduce the project and address the public's concerns.

"I'm looking forward to working with DOTD and the City of New Orleans in the revitalization of Magazine Street," said Greg Dombourian, President of the Magazine Street Merchants Association. "Road resurfacing is a key factor in keeping Magazine Street as a major economic engine of the city."

The South Louisiana Submerged Roads Program is repairing and resurfacing more than 55 streets damaged as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes. The program is 100-percent funded by the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program at an investment of 100 million.
