West Baton Rouge- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that “Be Prepared to Stop” signs were installed on the U.S. 190 (Huey P. Long) Bridge eastbound in West Baton Rouge Parish.

These signs were placed at the eastbound bridge approach in West Baton Rouge Parish in accordance with DOTD safety protocols. In addition to the signs, flashing beacons will also be added to provide additional warning to motorists. The signs were installed on March 18 and the lighting will be installed at a later date.

After assessing the location and reviewing a recent crash report from Louisiana State Police, safety officials determined the crash occurred when a tractor-trailer failed to stop in time and rear-ended vehicles that were at a stop. In situations like these, DOTD would like to remind drivers to drive the speed limit, make sure you have enough room to stop, don’t drive distracted and make sure your vehicle is safe to operate.

Additionally:
• Don’t drive impaired
• Follow directions from the signs, especially when entering construction zones
• Buckle up
