CHASE, La. – DOTD announced that the Harrisonburg bridge on La. 8 was closed to traffic at 9:30 last night after a barge damaged one of the piers and sheared some of the bolts that connect the metal trusses to the concrete piers.

“We closed the bridge immediately,” said DOTD District Administrator Ricky Moon. “We are now in the process of repairing the bridge.”

Moon said the bridge will be open to traffic no later than Monday. An alternate route for the area is La. 8 to U.S. 425/La. 15 at Sicily Island to U.S. 84 at Ferriday to La. 124 at Jonesville to La. 8 at Harrisonburg.

Approximately 2,500 vehicles use the bridge each day.
