BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) on Sunday launched a public service announcement (PSA) campaign urging drivers to slow down while driving.

The radio, television and print PSAs are the fourth installment of the “Wreck Less, Louisiana” highway safety campaign. The new PSAs, which highlight the dangers of speeding, will run throughout July.

The goal of the “Wreck Less, Louisiana” PSA campaign is to promote driver safety and awareness on Louisiana’s roadways in an effort to prevent the nearly 1,000 motor-vehicle fatalities that occur each year. The campaign is tackling six highway safety issues that are major contributors to crashes. DOTD officials believe the PSAs will help reduce crashes by influencing driver behavior. Each month of the campaign, which began in April, features a new highway safety issue with a separate PSA for print, radio and television. 

The new “Wreck Less, Louisiana” PSAs will run concurrent with stepped-up speeding enforcement efforts statewide and will reinforce the “zero tolerance” policy for speeding on the I-12 Millerville Road to Denham Springs corridor (in the Baton Rouge area).

The “Wreck Less, Louisiana” campaign that will continue through September. Topics are scheduled as follows: Work-Zone Safety (April), Pedestrian Safety (May), Move It Law (June), Speeding (July), Tailgating (August) and Driver Distraction (September).
