BATON ROUGE, La. – Drivers on Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard can expect some delays for approximately two weeks starting May 16 while contractors construct a critical drainage tie-in at the Perkins/Bluebonnet intersection.
The right-hand northbound lane of Bluebonnet will be closed for approximately 200 feet just south of the intersection with Perkins Road. Also, the right-hand turn-lane on Perkins eastbound will be closed at the intersection with Bluebonnet. These lanes will remain closed day and night during this time period.
“This closure is necessary to construct a new manhole that will connect the new drainage system to the old drainage system,” said DOTD Project Engineer Mike Vosburg. “We are trying to expedite this project to minimize the inconvenience to drivers, while at the same time keeping the work site safe for workers and drivers alike.”
Through traffic on Bluebonnet and Perkins will be maintained but with delays. Drivers should use caution while traveling through the area. This work and subsequent lane closures are subject to postponement in the event of adverse weather.
Throughout the project, the DOTD Customer Service Center will provide e-mail updates on the project’s progress as well as a call center for questions and concerns regarding the project. For questions, or to sign up for e-mail updates, contact DOTD Customer Service at 1-877-4LA-DOTD (1-877-452-3683) or e-mail customerservice@dotd.la.gov.
The finished roadway will widen Perkins Road from two lanes to five lanes – similar to the existing Perkins Road between Essen Lane and Acadian Thruway. There will be two through lanes in each direction, a center turn-lane throughout the length of the project and an additional turn-lane added at Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard.
