Expect some delays on Interstate 12 while old Juban overpass is removed

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that Interstate 12 at the Juban Road overpass will close to traffic between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. March 18 to March 23 and then on March 25 to March 30 while contractors remove the remainder of the old overpass.
Traffic will be redirected around the construction site using the newly constructed on- and off-ramps at Juban Road. DOTD District 62 Project Engineer Clay Hollowell said the work will be done at nonpeak traffic times to minimize the inconvenience to motorists traveling I-12.
The Juban Road overpass itself will be closed to traffic during this time. Traffic that would normally use the overpass will be detoured around Juban Road to U.S. 190 and La. 16 (Pete’s Highway.) to allow I-12 traffic to utilize the on- and off-ramps.
"Safety is our top concern right now," said Hollowell. "Rerouting the traffic around the construction site will keep motorists at a safe distance from the construction and will keep traffic moving. Otherwise, we would have to completely stop traffic every twenty minutes."
The project is scheduled for completion April 2007. When complete, the $16.4 million project will include a new five-lane overpass with a center turning lane and on- and off-ramps to I-12. The contractor is Denton James LLC.
DOTD plans to open the new overpass after a ribbon cutting-ceremony scheduled for April 3 at 10 a.m.
