UPDATE - REOPENED: LA 505 near the Wyatt Community, Jackson Parish

UPDATE (1/1/2021): The water has receded and LA 505 in this location has been REOPENED.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that, effective immediately, LA 505 from US 167 near the Wyatt Community to the Jackson/Winn Parish line is CLOSED due to high water.

This road closure will remain in effect until the water recedes.

DOTD reminds the public that it is illegal and extremely unsafe to drive around ‘road closed’ barricades at any time for any reason.

During unfavorable weather conditions, motorists should drive using the following safety tips:

• Drive slowly and carefully.
• Avoid driving into standing or running water.
• Avoid driving while distracted.
• Avoid using cruise control when visibility is low or road surfaces are wet.
• Always allow for extra driving time.
• Reduce speeds when visibility is low.
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
• Avoid using highway overpasses as tornado shelters.
