DOTD to reopen Edgard/Reserve Ferry

BATON ROUGE, La.  – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that it will reopen the Edgard/Reserve Ferry the week of Dec. 4 contingent on good weather and the reinstallation of utilities.

DOTD had closed the ferry and removed the utilities and landing barges Oct. 12 to allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to make improvements to the levee. The Corps informed DOTD that because of high water levels, it would not be able to continue working on the levee and has pushed the improvement project back to May 2007.

DOTD has begun preparations for the reinstallation of utilities and plans to begin work on the landing barges and approach ramps Nov. 26 and 27.

When open, the operating hours for the ferry are 5:15 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The ferry is closed on weekends.
