Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 9:38:57 PM

The LA 302 (Barataria/Kerner) Bridge is REOPENED to vehicular traffic.

Jefferson Parish-
On November 22 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a barge transporting a large crane struck the moveable portion of the Bayou Barataria swing bridge causing extensive mechanical and structural damage to the pivot pier. At this time, and as a result of the damage, the bridge remains fixed in the open position, thus closed to vehicular traffic.

The Department, through an emergency contract, has engaged a contractor to assist with returning the moveable portion of the bridge back to the closed position in order for vehicular traffic to be able to safely cross Bayou Barataria while permanent repairs are implemented. It is anticipated that the contractor will complete this initial task by the end of next week, weather permitting.

A pedestrian ferry service is operating near the bridge to provide residents passage across Bayou Barataria. For information regarding transportation needs, please call the Lafitte Town Hall information line at (504) 689- 2208.
