DOTD to close St. Francisville/New Roads Ferry for dredging
Wednesday, October 04, 2006 at 12:00:00 AM

BATON ROUGE, La.  – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will close the St. Francisville/New Roads Ferry landing on Monday, Oct. 9 in order to dredge the river bottom around the St. Francisville landing.

The ferry will remain closed for one to two weeks.

The ferry is currently open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will run until Sunday, Oct. 8.

The ferry was last closed on Sept. 9 because of low water levels in the Mississippi River and remained closed until water levels returned to an adequate level of eight feet.

The dredging of the landing should safeguard against any future drops in the water levels.
