DOTD reopens St. Francisville/New Roads Ferry during daylight hours
Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 12:00:00 AM

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) reopened the St. Francisville/New Roads Ferry landing this morning because rising water levels in the Mississippi River are allowing the boat to safely operate.

The ferry will continue running while the water level remains close to 8 feet, the required level for the ferry to run safely. Operating hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

DOTD is accepting bids from private contractors to dredge the river near the St. Francisville landing. Bids are scheduled to be taken during the next three weeks. The ferry will be closed for one week during the dredging process.

The ferry had been closed since Sept. 4 because of low water levels.
