DOTD reminds motorists of hazardous weather protocol for Black Bayou Bridge and Grand Lake Bridge

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development would like to remind motorists that DOTD will follow the US Coast Guard approved protocol for moveable bridges on the Intracoastal Waterway. If conditions become too hazardous to operate, Black Bayou Bridge will remain open to roadway traffic, and the Grand Lake Bridge will close to roadway traffic. Conditions are deemed too hazardous when 39 MPH sustained winds are detected.

Black Bayou and Grand Lake bridges will remain in service for vehicle and marine traffic as long as it is safe to operate.

DOTD will continue to monitor weather conditions and will announce if this protocol becomes necessary. For up-to-date information on the ferries, road closures and other incidents, check http://www.511la.org before you travel.
