PROJECT UPDATE: LA 530 bridge replacement over Black Bayou in Caddo Parish

SHREVEPORT – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the project to replace the LA 530 bridge over Black Bayou in north Caddo Parish near Oil City is moving forward.

The $3.5 million project is currently in the clearing & grubbing, and utility relocation phases.

In addition to replacing the existing bridge, the new bridge and the approaches will be raised to match the elevation of the levee. The purpose of raising these is to address sharp differences in elevation, which will provide an improved driving experience by reducing the number of vertical curves.

This part of the construction work will require the closure of Clyde Place Vivian Road (a parish-owned roadway) at the intersection of LA 530, which is in close proximity to the location of the bridge. At this time, the closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 21, 2020.

Levee access will be maintained for the levee board and others with authorization to use the levee near this intersection.

The 92-year-old bridge was closed in October 2018 due to the condition of the structure, and a construction project had to be developed in order to replace it.

This bridge is located approximately 2.71 miles east of LA 538.

The entire project is estimated to be complete in Fall 2021, with progress dependent on weather conditions.

The detour continues to be I-49, LA 170, and LA 1.
